Bristol Resident Ken Bowes to be Honoree at the Nov. 9 NBBBS Annual Gala
Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters announced today that it’s naming well-known Connecticut business executive and community volunteer, Kenneth B. Bowes of Bristol as Honoree at its annual Gala, being held at The Society Room of Hartford on Saturday, November 9.
“I’m thrilled to be singled out for this special recognition,” said Bowes. “I’m especially honored to be recognized by an organization so close to my heart, which – since 1966 – has been moving the lives of thousands of at-risk Connecticut children forward by matching them with caring adults who become their friends and role models.”
Bowes is Vice President of Offshore Wind for Eversource Energy. He is the past Chairman of the Edison Electric Institute’s Transmission Committee and was inducted into the University of Connecticut, Academy of Distinguished Engineers in 2016, and elected into the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering in 2017. Bowes also serves on the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Connecticut and the Bristol Boys and Girls Club of Bristol Family Center. He joined Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Board in 2011 and, in 2016 and 2017, served as Board Chair.
Andy Fleischmann, President and CEO of Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters said, “As people involved with mentoring know, Ken Bowes truly deserves this recognition. There are few individuals in Connecticut who have been more empathetic to children in need than Ken. And, there are few more consistently ready to inspire others to meet those needs. We are proud to honor Ken as a champion of our mission to help children reach their full potential. And we look forward to raising a glass with him, along with many other friends and supporters.”
Attendees at the 2019 Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Gala can expect gourmet food, signature cocktails and fine wines, an eclectic mix of eventgoers, and an evening packed with fun and surprises. This includes a program led by Emcee Chrystal Hall, a Big Sister (adult mentor) and former Fox 61 reporter. It also includes a Live Auction presided over by professional auctioneer Paul Stansel. Gala Committee members have been working for months to secure “must have” items certain to surprise and entice audience members.
“Our line-up of auction items is outstanding,” said Mariah Nolan, Nutmeg’s Event Manager. “If this year turns out to be better than last year – and it looks as if it’s going to be – people will be bowled over by the range and desirability of the items available.”
